Corrosion Survey and Control Strategies in China
[abstract] In the 21st century, both the economic aggregate and the industrial structure have changed greatly. A program to evaluate the corrosion situation and strategy in China has been carried out in the period of 2015-2016, which is initiated by Prof. Baorong Hou, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The program is mainly focused on five fields including manufacture, transport, energy, water environment, and infrastructure, led by Prof. Binshi Xu, Prof. Huibin Xu, Prof. Jianyun Zhang, Prof. Baorong Hou and Prof. Xiaogang Li, respectively. These five fields are further divided into more than 30 industrial areas. The program is an important part of the global corrosion cost study led by NACE. The calculation has been carried out by the Chinese Society for Corrosion and Protection, using the Uhlig method, the Hoar method and the Battelle method. It has been found that the gross corrosion cost of the year 2014 in China is ¥2127.82 billion, which accounts for 3.34% of the Chinese GDP in 2014. The investigation and corrosion control is related to safety, economy, ecological civilization, national welfare and people's living standards, and it is essential for building resource-conserving society. Considering the significance of proper corrosion control and management, the effort on corresponding education and research should be taken to reduce the corrosion cost in China.

侯保榮院士
工學博士,中國工程院院士,中國科學院海洋研究所研究員,國家海洋環境腐蝕防護工程技術中心主任,“海洋防腐蝕產業技術戰略聯盟”理事長。
1992年享受國務院特殊津貼,1993年在日本獲工學博士學位,曾擔任山東省第九屆、第十屆人大代表、常委會委員,第十一屆國家人大代表。2003年12月,被評為中國工程院院士。
近年來,出版了《海洋腐蝕環境理論及其應用》、《海洋腐蝕與防護》、《海洋浪花飛濺區腐蝕控制技術》等7本專著,日文專著《海洋腐食環境と防食の科學》被日本專家評價為“奠定了腐蝕環境研究的基礎,可以作為教科書使用”。
迄今,侯保榮院士共獲何梁何利科學與技術進步獎、山東省科學技術技術最高獎、國家科技進步二等獎、山東省科學技術進步獎、中國科學院科技進步獎、國家海洋局和青島市科技局獎等獎項共9項,其中,《鋼鐵設施在海洋環境中的腐蝕及其防腐蝕技術》獲2002年度國家科技進步二等獎,這是海洋腐蝕與防護技術領域的唯一國家級獎項。
